Since today is #TBT or Throwback Thursday, I thought I should talk a little bit about the Gap ads that has been circulating around my television for the past couple of weeks.
Gap has been on hiatus for about two years, and not a memorable commercial since the 2013 “Back to Blue” campaign when Alexa Ray Joel (Billy Joel’s daughter) and Dhani Harrison (George Harrison’s son of The Beatles) did a cover of their parents’ songs. This time, Gap is bringing back the “Mellow Yellow”-esque campaign with 90’s sounds like Color Me Badd’s “All 4 Love”. I truly embrace the nostalgia of it all, and was easily bopping my head everytime it comes on. We all know that Gap’s golden age of fashion was in the 90s, since then, they have been struggling, trying to keep up with the ever-changing time and the future. It is a clever ad campaign to use 90s generation’s celebrities’ children to take part of this — which comes to full circle.
Gap usually comes up with some clever commercials that gives you some sort of nostalgic feeling from their authenticity, and I hope that they will continue to explore to bring their brand up to date.
